Magpy

Magpy is a digital coin counter that functions as both a coin counter and a sleep household decoration. This device resembles ab anthropometric form of a Magpie bird due to their similar characteristics. The outward appearance does not directly imply that Magpy stores monetary value. Rather, discrete features such as the coin slot and digital screen suggest its purpose.

Early Models

  • Functions: A simple coin storage device. The clear window on the side and be opened and closed to reveal the coins. Buttons are simple to use and turn the device on/off.

  • Drawbacks: Outer form is boring (rectangular prism). Looks like an old ambiguous device

  • Functions: Insert coins through a slot at the back of the head. Opening the beak reveals an LCD screen that shows the amount of coins stored. A small window on the side of the head can be slid to see the coins through a clear wall.

  • Drawbacks: Looks too kitsch… bird head mounted in a room doesn’t look visually pleasing

  • Functions: A sleek look and stores coins within. The orange buttons on the side turn on/off the LCD display. The shell can be slid open and close to reveal the coins stored.

  • Drawbacks: The color is too plain and does not work well with the form
